Germany reports 14,419 new coronavirus cases in latest update today

Another 267 deaths reported, the highest daily total since 22 April

Germany
The daily case count is sitting higher again after the typical Monday low count but if you want to look at the positives, at least it isn’t growing exponentially and settling in the higher range of tens of thousands of cases.
The 267 deaths reported is the highest since 22 April though, bringing the total tally to 12,814 persons, as the number of deaths has steadily increased in recent weeks.
In terms of healthcare capacity, there are 3,436 coronavirus patients requiring intensive care as of yesterday with 6,950 (25%) units still available across the country.
The increase is not quite nearly the doubling as seen a few weeks back but compared to two weeks ago on 2 November, there were 2,243 coronavirus patients requiring intensive care so that is still an increase of nearly 1,200 patients during the period.
German authorities met up yesterday with Merkel saying that “I could have imagined imposing further contact restrictions today, but there was no majority for that”.
Instead, local authorities are planning to decide next week if further restrictions would be needed going into December, although Merkel did acknowledge that case numbers are stabilising in Germany but still “too slowly”.

A US coronavirus economic relief package remains elusive

Senate Republicans with separate interivews, but similar comments.

Senator Roy Blunt:
  • There seems to be more interest in trying to move a omnibus [government funding] package, and more serious discussion about that, than I’ve heard so far about a COVID package.
Senator Shelby:
  • senate will not be passing gigantic stimulus measure now
  • doubtful a large relief bill would pass later
  • maybe some potential fortargeted measures

Germany reports record 23,542 new coronavirus cases in latest update today

Another 218 deaths reported as well

Germany
Despite entering into ‘lockdown light’ on 2 November, the virus situation in Germany is showing no signs of abating just yet.
As mentioned at the time, it may take up to two weeks or more for the trajectory to possibly turn the corner. For now, the only “good” news is that the case count is not exponentially growing despite the record number of infections over the past 24 hours.

There are now over 257,000 active cases across the country and that figure is still gradually increasing, as compared to the ~166,000 active cases on 1 November.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus patients requiring intensive care has increased by another 59 to 3,186 persons as of yesterday. That sees the number of available intensive care units fall to 6,587 (24%) across the country.

France PM Castex: One person is being admitted to hospital every 30 seconds with Covid

France Prime Minister Castex speaking

  • one out of four Destin France’s due to Covid at present
  • one person is being admitted to hospital every 30 seconds at present in France because of Covid.
  • We can do more in terms of making people work from home
  • Covid 19 hospitalizations are now higher than April peak
  • evolution of new confirmed Covid cases has slowed it down a bit over the last week
  • This is a positive development regarding Covid 19 in France but must remain prudent

The race is on between the potential for a run away pandemic, hospital capacity limitations, PPE, and a vaccine.

Germany RKI chief warns that coronavirus deaths will rise across the country

Remarks by Germany RKI chief, Lothar Wieler

  • Expects uncontrolled spread of infections in some parts of Germany
  • Number of infections are rising practically in all parts of the country
  • Still possible to flatten the curve by following distancing rules
The daily reports have already reflected such a trend as his headline remark, with the 261 deaths reported yesterday being the highest since April.
Healthcare capacity is also facing some pressure with coronavirus patients requiring intensive care having exceeded 3,000 this week – pretty much doubling every two weeks at the current pace. And that isn’t a good sign in trying to reduce the mortality rate.

Germany reports 21,866 new coronavirus cases in latest update today

The second-highest daily count on record for Germany

Germany
This shows that the virus situation isn’t quite abating just yet, but the figure it at least not growing exponentially as it has been doing in October.
There are now roughly ~240,000 active cases across the country.

The number of deaths is keeping on the high side as well, with another 215 deaths reported – following the 261 deaths yesterday, which was the highest since April – and that brings the total tally on that front to 11,982 persons.
It looks like it will still take some time before the virus trajectory turns the corner, and the hope for German officials is that it will be some time in the next week or two at least.
