S&P/Dow closes at a record level. NASDAQ breaks two day slide

Russell 2000 moves lower

Dow and the S&P closed at record highs once again (3rd day in a row) after reaching new intraday record highs as well. The NASDAQ index broke a two day slide.
The final numbers are showing:
  • Dow up 14.74 points or 0.04% at 35499.61
  • S&P up 13.12 points or 0.29% at 4460.82
  • NASDAQ up 51.12 points or 0.35% at 14816.26
S&P posted to 47th record close for the year.
Dow closed at its it 33rd record close for the year.

S&P and Dow close (again) at new highs. Nasdaq recovers but still lower on the day

Nasdaq lower for the 2nd consecutive day

The Dow and S&P closed at record levels for the second consecutive day. The NASDAQ closed lower for its second day of declines.
  • The Dow closed at a record for the 32 time this year

  • Dow rose 220.23 points or 0.62% at 35484.90. That was just off the high of 35501.16.
  • S&P rose 11.02 points or 0.25% at 4447.77. The high for the day reached 4437.10
  • Nasdaq felt -22.95 points or -0.16% at 14765.13. The low percentage decline reached -0.65%.
  • Russell 2000 rose 10.98 points or 0.49% at 2250.34

Dow and S&P close at record highs

NASDAQ closes lower

The Dow and S&P both closed at record levels in trading today with the Dow industrial average leading the way with a 0.46% gain.  The S&P squeaked out a new high closing above the high close from August 6 at 4436.51. The close today came in at 4436.82. The NASDAQ index lagged today with a decline as traders are concerned about valuatiions given the prospects for higher rates earlier rather than later.
The final numbers are showing
  • Dow rose 162.82 points or 0.46% at 35264.68
  • S&P index rose 4.4 points or 0.10%  at 4436.74.
  • Nasdaq fell -72.95 points or -0.49% at 14788.08

Dow and S&P snap 2 day win streak

The US stocks are closing mixed with no records set today.  Last week on Thursday, both the S&P and NASDAQ closed at record levels. On Friday, the Dow and S&P closed at record levels.  Today although the Nasdaq rebounded higher, it fell short of its record close.
  • The S&P and Dow both closed lower and with it, failed to close at a record high.
  • The NASDAQ closed higher for the fifth time in six trading days the Russell 2000
  • The Russell 2000 was the worst performer with a decline of -0.58%

  • Dow industrial average closed down -106.66 points or -0.30% at 35101.85
  • S&P index fell -3.82 points or -0.09% at 4432.70
  • NASDAQ index rose 24.4 points or 0.16% at 14860.20

The stronger-than-expected US jobs report Helped send the Dow 30 stocks higher in trading today. The S&P index was mixed but also close marginally higher. The NASDAQ index fell on the back of the potential for higher rates slowing down some of the high flyers.
Whereas yesterday, the S&P and NASDAQ closed at record levels. Today the Dow and S&P are closing at records. The Russell 2000 index also closed higher today.

Goldman Sachs jam its end of year S&P500 target 400 points higher

Q2 earnings coming in far higher than expected 
  • exceeding expectations by historically wide margins
  • expect aggregate earnings per share for companies in the S&P 500 will be $207 this year, up from a previous forecast of $193
  • Further ahead, 2022 expecting aggregate EPS of $212, up from $202
 And, bond yields remain low 
  • “Lower interest rates than expected support a stable forward P/E multiple of 22x”
  • the GS forecast for 10-year Treasury yield by year-end is 1.6% (from 1.9% previously)
