Major indices close in the red. S&P and NASDAQ post the 3rd straight losing week
S&P leads the way to the downside today
The major US indices are closing the red. The S&P and NASDAQ are down for the 2nd straight day and for the 3rd week in a row. All 11 sectors of the S&P closed lower. The S&P was the weakest of the majors.The final numbers are showing:
- Tthe S&P index fell -37.68 points or -1.12% to 3319.33
- The NASDAQ index fell -116.99 points or -1.07% to 10793.28
- The Dow industrial average fell 244.69 points or -0.88% to 27657.29
- S&P index fell -0.65%
- NASDAQ index fell -0.56%
- Dow industrial average fell -0.03%
Year to date, the NASDAQ index continues to lead by a wide margin. The changes are showing

US Stocks lower but off worst levels at the close
Dow snaps 4 day win streak
The major US stock indices closed down on the day, but it could have been worse. Then again in could have been better too. The major indices are closing near today’s the middle of the days trading ranges.
The Dow industrial average was the relative best performer. In fact at 1 point today it traded positively with a 24.4 point gain. However that was quickly rejected the price rotated back into the negative. The NASDAQ index was the weakest. Both it, and the S&P closed lower for the 2nd straight day.
The final numbers are showing:
- The S&P index closed down -28.48 points or -0.84% at 3357.01
- the NASDAQ index closed down -140.19 points or -1.27% at 10910.27
- the Dow industrial average fell -130.40 points or -0.47% at 27901.98.

Overnight :NASDAQ tumbles. Dow higher but gives up most of its gains
Dow is up 396 points at session high
The US stock markets rolled over into the close with the Nasdaq leading the declines. The S&P winning streak of 3 days was snapped. The Dow closed higher but gave up nearly all of its close to 400 point gain at the session highs.
The final numbers are showing:
- S&P index -15.71 points or -0.46% at 3385.49
- NASDAQ index -139.85 points or -1.25% at 11050.40
- Dow up 36.78 points or 0.13% at 28032.38.
The big news today – in stocks that is – was a couple of IPOs.
JFrog was priced at $44 a share and closed at $64.79 after trading as high as $77.
The other was snowflake which was priced at $120 a share and closed at $253.93. It traded as high as $319. Snowflake was the largest ever software IPO.
