All 3 major indices reach intraday all-time highs

The NASDAQ and S&P are each closing at record highs. All 3 major indices (NASDAQ, S&P, Dow) traded intraday to record highs. The Dow however, could not close at a record high.  PS the Russell 2000 closed at a record level as well.

The final numbers are showing
  • S&P index rose 10.24 points or 0.28% to 3702.20. The high price reached 3708.45. The low price extended to 3678.83
  • NASDAQ index rose 62.827 points or 0.5% to 12582.73. The high price reached 12594.53. The low price extended to 12453.20..
  • Dow industrial average rose 104.75 points or 0.35% to 30174.54. The high price reached 30246.22. The low price extended to 29972.07

Dow closes lower for the 1st time in 5 days. NASDAQ record close

S&P moves lower and snaps 2 day win streak

The US stock market is ending the session with mixed results. While the NASDAQ index closed at yet another record high. The Dow industrial average snapped a 4 day win streak. The S&P close lower.

A snapshot of the major indices shows:
  • S&P index fell 7.16 points or -0.19% to 3691.96. The high reached 3697.41. The low extended to 3678.88. The high today fell short of the all-time intraday high reached on Friday at 3699.20
  • NASDAQ index rose 55.713 points or 0.45% to 12519.94.  It was a record close for the index. The high reached 12536.22.  That was a new all time intraday high price.
  • The Dow industrial average fell 148.47 points or -0.49% to 30069.79. It’s high reached 30233.03. The low extended to 29967.22.  The high today was a new all-time intraday high

US major indices close at record highs led by the S&P index

Major indices close near highs

All 3 major indices close at record highs today.

  • The Dow and S&P close higher for the 2nd consecutive week
  • The NASDAQ close higher for the 3rd consecutive week
  • The S&P index outperformed the Dow and Nasdaq although all closed near session highs.
The final numbers are showing:
  • S&P index rose 32.4 points or 0.88% to 3699.12
  • NASDAQ index rose 87.05 points or 0.7% to 12,464.23
  • Dow rose 248.74 points or 0.83% to 30,218.26
For the week, the
  • NASDAQ index led the way with a 2.12% gain.
  • The S&P rose by 1.67% and
  • The Dow industrial average rose by 1.03%.
Energy, banks and technology led the charge this week. Energy was up around 4% while banks and technology increased by 3%.
Looking at the major global indices, the UK FTSE 100 led the winners with a 2.87% gain. Italy’s FTSE MIB and the German DAX were the laggards for the week. The FTSE MIB fell by -0.70% while the German DAX fell by -0.28%.

Down industrial average rising modestly

The S&P index is closing at yet another record.  The index rose by only a modest 6.54 points or 0.18%, but it was still good enough for a another record close for the index.

The final numbers are showing:
  • S&P index rose 6.54 points or 0.18% to 3668.99. The low reached 3644.84. The high extended to 3670.96
  • Nasdaq index fell -5.739 points or -0.5% to 12349.36. The high reached 12360.05. The low extended to 12217.35
  • Dow rose 60.86 points or 0.20% to 29884.78. The high reached 29902.51. The low extended to 29599.29
The biggest winners in the Dow 30 was Boeing with a 5.07% gain. Walgreens rose by 3.61% and Walt Disney increased by 2.78%. The biggest loser was Salesforce which fell -8.56%. McDonald’s fell -2.43% despite re-offering the McRib sandwich. Home Depot fell 1.5%.

S&P and NASDAQ index is still close at record highs

The major indices close higher but come off the highs and last hour so trading. Nevertheless both the NASDAQ and S&P closed at record high levels. The NASDAQ closed at record highs for the 46th time this year.

A snapshot of the close shows:
  • S&P index up 40.81 points or 1.13% at 3662.44.  The new all time high price comes in at 3678.45
  • the NASDAQ index close up 156.36 points or 1.28% at 12355.10. The new all-time intraday high price reached 12405.70
  • the Dow industrial average rose 185.28 points or 29823.92. The high price did extend back above the 30,000 level to a high price of 30083.31

  • the Dow industrial average had its best monthly performance since January 1987
  • the S&P 500 and NASDAQ had their best months since April

  • today the NASDAQ snapped it’s a 4 day winning streak
  • The Dow reached the 30,000 milestone before backing off the last few days of the month
