The US major indices are closing with mixed results. The down S&P index are closing higher on the day. The Nasdaq index is closing lower and near the lows for the day. The Russell 2000 of small-cap stocks closed at a record high.
The final numbers are showing:
  • S&P index up 2.75 points or 0.07% at 3690.01. The high price reached 3711.24. The low price was just below the closing level at 3689.28
  • Nasdaq index fell 36.805 points or -0.29% at 12771.15. The high reached 12841.92. The low was at 12758.67
  • Dow industrial average rose 114.32 points or 0.3% to 30129.83. The high price reached 30292.53. The low price extended to 30046.73

NASDAQ and Russell 2000 close at record highs

The US stock indices are ending the session with mixed results. The S&P index is trading down modestly, the NASDAQ index is leading the way to the upside. The Dow is the worst performer.

The small-cap Russell 2000 is ending nearer up 1%. It and the Nasdaq index closed the day at record highs.
The S&P is lower for the 3rd consecutive day.

  • S&P index -7.66 points or -0.21% at 3687.26
  • NASDAQ index up 65.40 points or 0.51% at 12807.92
  • Dow down 200.94 points or -0.67% at 30015.54
The  Russell 2000 is closing up around 18.5 points points or plus 0.94% at 1988.79.

Broad indices close lower but well off the worst levels of the day

Dow closes marginally higher

The US border indices are closing lower on the day but well off the worst levels.  The Dow industrial average is closing marginally higher.

  • S&P index fell -14.47 points or -0.39% to 3694.94
  • NASDAQ index fell -13.122 points or -0.10% to 12742.53
  • Dow rose 36.94 points or 0.12% to 30215.99
Although the broader indices close lower, the gains off the lows were impressive.
  • The S&P index was down -1.97% the lows
  • the NASDAQ index is down -1.81% the lows
  • the Dow industrial average was down -1.4% at the lows
Despite the declines in the S&P and NASDAQ, the come back off the lows was significant.

It was a quadruple witching hour today and also a rebalanced day for the S&P index as Tesla will join the S&P index on Monday. As a result, the price action into the close was quite volatile. The major indices erased bigger declines with a surge in the last 30 or so minutes of trading

  • S&P index fell -13.07 points or -0.35% to 3709.41. The low price reached 3685.84. The high reached 3726.70
  • NASDAQ index fell -9.108 points or -0.07% to 12755.62. The low price reached 12654.60. The high extended to 12809.60
  • Dow fell -124.32 points or -0.41% to 30179.02. The low price reached 30029.44. The high was up at 30343.59
For the week, the Nasdaq led the major indices higher.

  • Nasdaq index rose 3.05%
  • Dow rose 0.44%.
