The major US indices all closed lower on the day with each down similar amounts of about -0.93%.
The final numbers are showing:
- S&P index fell -38.44 points or -0.92% at 4134.90
- Nasdaq down -131.8 points or -0.94% at 13818.41
- Dow -321.41 points or -0.94% at 33815.90
Intel reported after the close and beat on the tops and bottom lines, but true to the earnings reaction, the stock is lower.
US stocks and close near session highs. Snap 2-day losing streak
Russell 2000 index biggest gainer on the day
the major US stock indices are closing near their session highs. Each of the major indices are snapping a 2-day losing streak. The small-cap Russell index rose by near 2.4%. The NASDAQ index increase by 1.19%.
- Advancing the declines by 71
- New highs on the NASDAQ grew by 99 versus new lows of 94
- Dow is still on pace for the largest weekly loss in two months
- Utilities/communication services lag.
- IBM was the biggest contributor to the Dow industrial average today
- materials and energy and technology led the way to the upside
- The Russell index rose 2.39%

The internals were strange today with the Dow underperforming at the open and then that reversed and it outperformed as tech and small caps struggled. In any case, it’s a modest setback after a great start to the month.

Mixed results in the US stocks. Dow up. Nasdaq and S&P lower
No new records today as investors focus attention on Coinbase debut
The US stocks are ending the session with mixed results. The Dow did snap eight to date losing streak, but the S&P and NASDAQ index both close lower with the NASDAQ index taking on most of the downward heat. The S&P index reached a new all-time intraday high of 4151.69 before closing lower.
Coinbase made its public debut, opening at $381, went up to $429 before closing at $328.
