S&P snaps seven-day winning streak

NASDAQ closes at a new record for the third consecutive day

The US major indices are ending the session with mixed results:

  • NASDAQ posts a record close for the third consecutive day
  • S&P index snapped a seven day winning streak
  • Dow industrial average led the way to the downside
The major indices are closing the session with mixed results.  The mega growth companies of the NASDAQ index were the better relative performers. Oil reached a new cycle high and highest level since 2014, only to rotate back to the downside and close negative. US yields moved lower with the 10 year moving to a low of 1.352%.
The final numbers are showing:
  • S&P index -8.8.0-0.20% at 4343.53
  • NASDAQ index rose 24.33 points or 0.17% at 14663.65.
  • Dow industrial average felt -208.98 points or -0.60% at 34577.37
Amazon was a big gainer today rising by 4.69% or $164 to $3675.74.

S&P closes at a record level for the 7th consecutive day

NASDAQ closes at a record and so does the Dow…

The S&P index is up for the seventh straight day and closes at a record level once again.  It is the 7th record high close for the S&P.
The NASDAQ index also closed at a record today that is the second consecutive record close for the NASDAQ.
The Dow industrial average also closed at a record level. That is the first record close for the Dow this week and the first since May 7.
The major indices are all closing near the highs for the day after stronger jobs gains but not enough to worry the markets.  .
Leading the S&P are:
  • Information technology up 1.39% the
  • Consumer discretionary up 0.97%
  • Healthcare up 0.94%
  • Communication services up 0.93%
Three of the 11 sectors closed lower including:
  • Financials down -0.22%
  • Energy -0.08%, and
  • Utilities -0.06%
Other highlights:
  • Advancers 1703 vs Decliners 1608
  • Dow rises for the fourth straight day
  • Dow S&P and NASDAQ close higher for the second consecutive week
A look at the record closing levels shows:
  • S&P index rose 32.4 points or 0.75% at 4352.33
  • NASDAQ index rose 116.96 points or 0.81% at 14639.34
  • Dow industrial average rose 152.82 points or 0.44% at 34786.34
it wasn’t all happy and bullish times and small cap stocks:
  • Russell 2000-23.6 points or -1.01% at 2305.76
For the week,
  • S&P index rose 1.68%
  • NASDAQ index rose 1.96%
  • Dow rose 1.07%

US stocks close higher. S&P trades to another record close

Nasdaq lags and closes marginally higher

The major US indices are closing the day higher with the S&P index leading the way. The S&P index is up for the six consecutive day and closes at a record level.

US Indices end the session mixed

S&P closes at a record high

The US stocks are ending the session mixed with the Nasdaq down, and the Dow and S&P higher.  The S&P closed at a record high.
Today is month end, quarter end and the end of the 1st half of the year.  The numbers for each are showing:
  • S&P is higher for the fifth straight month. the S&P rose 2.3% for the month. It rose 8.17% for the quarter.  For the year the index is up 14.3%
  • Dow Jones closed near unchanged for the month. The index rose 4.6% for the quarter and is up 12.7% for the year
  • Nasdaq closed the month up 5.49%.  It is up 9.49% for the quarter. For the year the index is up 12.54%.
For today, the NASDAQ lagged, while the Dow led
  • Dow rose 210.2 to points or 0.61% at 34502.52.
  • S&P index rose 5.7 points or 0.13% of 4297.50
  • NASDAQ index fell 24.38 points or -0.17% at 14503.95
  • Russell 2000 rose 1.7 points or 0.07% at 2310.55

The S&P in NASDAQ are both closing at record high levels
  • S&P close higher for the fourth consecutive day
  • Dow is up 185 points at the highs for the day. Give up most of those gains
  • NASDAQ up for the second straight day
  • The Dow industrial is on track for a monthly loss of for June
  • Russell 2000 index down for the second consecutive day
  • Technology and healthcare led the gains in the S&P,,while utilities, industrials and communication services were the biggest losers
The final numbers are showing:
  • S&P index up 1.19 points or 0.03% at 4291.80
  • NASDAQ index up 27.82 points or 0.19% at 14528.33
  • Dow industrial average 9.02 points or 0.03% at 34292.29
  • Russell 2000 index fell -13.49 points or -0.58% at 2308.84
