German Dax near unchanged

The major European indices are closing near unchanged/higher on the day. The provisional closes are showing:
  • German DAX, -0.1%
  • France’s CAC, +0.6%
  • UK’s FTSE 100, -0.2%
  • Spain’s Ibex, +0.5%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB +0.3%
In other markets as European traders look to exit:
  • Spot gold is up six dollars or 0.34% $1802.35. Although gold is higher with the dollar lower, it’s not running like you might expect given the fall in the greenback
  • Spot silver is up six cents or 0.26% at $24.11
  • Crude oil futures are trading at $82.02, down -0.76% on the day
  • Bitcoin is trading up at $61,455 after the dip below $60,000 yesterday
In the US stock market, the NASDAQ index moved to a new all-time high of 15417.97. It has come off that level currently trading at 15404.21. That is still up 169 points or 1.1%.
  • The Dow industrial average is up 200 points or 0.57% at 35689.92
  • The S&P index is up 39.18 points or 0.86% at 4590.82
In the forex market, the USD has moved sharply to the downside in the US session. The USD is now the weakest of the majors. The EUR is the strongest after their meeting which saw policy remain unchanged.

Euro Stoxx index comes off a record close reached yesterday

The major European indices are closing lower on the day. It comes a day after the Euro Stoxx 600 index closed a record level yesterday. Today, the index was down -0.1%.

  • France’s CAC, -0.2%
  • UK’s FTSE 100, -0.3%
  • Spain’s Ibex, -0.3%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB, -0.5%
In other markets as European traders move toward the exits for the day:
  • Spot gold is trading marginally lower at $1792.40.
  • Spot silver is down eight cents or -0.31% at $24.07.
  • WTI crude oil futures are trading at $83.32 down -1.57%
  • The price of bitcoin trades at $59,000
European benchmark 10 year yields are closing mixed in up and down volatility. The UK 10 year yield is down the most at -12.9 basis points but France (unchanged), Germany (+0.3 basis points), and Italy (+0.4 basis points) saw yields close marginally higher (but well off high levels as well).

The Euro stocks 600 index is set to close at a new all-time high. The index is up 0.8% and above the previous high of 475.84.

In the US stock market, the major indices are coming off their high levels but still higher on the day. The S&P and Dow industrial average traded to a new intraday all-time high prices:
  • Dow, +112.37 points or 0.32% at 35854.82. It new all-time high comes in at 35892.92
  • S&P index up 23 points or 0.5% at 4589.74. Its new all-time high comes in at 4598.53
  • NASDAQ index is up 86.6 points or 0.59% at 15316.62. It’s high price reached 15384.00. That’s 19 points lower than the all-time high of 15403.44

The major European indices are closing the day. The provisional closes are showing:

Looking at the daily chart of the German Dax, the index has been developing a lid against its 150 day moving averages. The 100 day moving averages currently at 15596. The 50 day moving averages at 15573.  Ultimately would take a move above both to increase the bullish bias.  Absent that and the sellers hold at least some control.

In the US stock market, the NASDAQ is higher while the S&P and Dow are lower. The S&P is working on a six day winning streak.  The NASDAQ is up five the last six trading days.

In the US debt market, yields are higher with the 10 year up 3.2 basis points. The five year is up the most at 4.6 basis points.

The European major indices are ending mostly higher. The France’s CAC is unchanged to down marginally.

  • Spain’s Ibex, +0.65%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB, +0.5%
in other markets as London/European traders look to exit:
  • Spot gold is trading up $6.08 or 0.34% $1770.40
  • Spot silver is up $0.69 or is 3.0% at $23.87
  • WTI crude oil futures are trading up $1.16 or 1.42% at $83.44
  • The price of bitcoin is back positive at plus $600 or 0.96% at $62,628. The high for the day did reach $63,337.54
In the US stock market, the major indices remain higher on the day. The NASDAQ and S&P are working on their fifth consecutive day to the upside.

In the US debt market, the longer end yields are higher while the short run yields are lower increasing the yield spread. The two – 10 year spread is up to 122.6 basis points from 116.3 basis points at the close yesterday.

German DAX tests its 100/50 day moving averages

the major European indices are closing higher for the day and also closing higher for the week. The EuroStoxx 600 index rose by 2.6%. This was the best week since March.. UK’s FTSE 100 is trading at 7 month high. The German Dax test its 50 and 100 day moving averages.
