The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to be authorised for ages 12 – 15 in the US next week

The New York Times reports on further progress in the US vaccination program.

  • FDA to approve its use for the 12 to 15 ages next week.

Currently the vaccine available to those over the age of 16.

I saw news earlier the US state of New Jersey is to offer a free beer (not to the above age group, of course) to people who get vaccinated.

Overnight : DOW Closed + 238 points

US stocks saw a flow out of the big cap tech Nasdaq index, and into the cyclicals of the Dow 30. The S&P index is also higher.  The NASDAQ index traded as high as 0.57% before reversing and moving down as low as -0.58%.  The index settled near the lows at -0.48%. Meanwhile the DOW index never traded negative on the day (nor did the S&P). The Dow gained 0.7%. The S&P rose by 0.31%

the price of WTI crude oil futures are settling higher on the day on hopes for reopening and stronger global growth. The price settle up $0.91 or 1.43% at $64.49. The high for the day reach $64.68. The low for the day extended to $62.91

Looking at the hourly chart, the price there is closing above its 100 hour moving average currently at $63.81. The price is also closing above the March 20 high at $64.36.  Stay above the 100 hour moving average is a key barometer for the buyers.

The rotation out of tech into cycles has the Nasdaq down and the Dow up today.  The NASDAQ is currently down 57 points or -0.41% 13906.21.  Meanwhile the Dow is up 313 points or 0.93% at 34189.

Last week was a key week for high tech/big cap with Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Tesla all reporting. By and large the earnings outpaced expectations by healthy amounts. Nevertheless, investors could not keep momentum going (and for some the prices moved lower despite beats).
